Offering Support to an Established
Sports Club

January 2016

We are pleased to be supporting the Old Brodleians RUFC, a long established sports club based in Hipperholme, near Halifax.

Deryk Sharp, the founder of the Electric Actuator Company played and was a Patron for the Old Brodleians, which is why the company is keen to support it.

“It’s a great example of a local rugby club that actively promotes playing members from the age of 6 to full senior teams.  It has a successful number of girls playing the sport too, starting with the U13 squad, aptly named the Brodettes.” Said Andy Foulds, Managing Director of the Electric Actuator Company, who himself played rugby for 20 years.

“We wish this local sports club all the best for the season, they do a great job in promoting sports to the youth, actively promoting home grown players and offer a great social environment too.”

Going Global LIVE

January 2016

We were delighted when the Made in GB Campaign team invited us to exhibit our British made electric actuators on their stand at the Going Global exhibition at Olympia in December.

It was Made in Britain’s first Showcase event to include a live broadcast via social media whilst presenting several Made in Britain members’ products at one of the countries leading export trade fairs. The event was really well attended with more than 3000 delegates and their stand was one of the busiest.

We shared the stage with other Made in GB members and it was great to hear them explain their UK businesses and see that UK manufacturing is buoyant, diverse, rich and growing.

The Made in Britain Campaign goes from strength to strength, with an award-winning marque and an ever-growing membership.  Their trademark-protected marque is now used on 1000’s of products (including ours) helping millions of buyers easily identify British-made goods.  It’s a not-for-profit campaign which is making a real difference to businesses in the UK.

Selected for Made in Britain Handbook

November 2015

We are delighted to see our Electric Actuators promoted on the inside cover of the new Made in Britain handbook.  1000 copies of this new 24-page guide have been produced and circulated to the current 600 members plus new prospects currently in the process of joining the campaign.  We were one of just 17 members selected by the campaign to feature.

The Made in Britian scheme, launched in 2011, was developed as research had shown consumers to be confused about what products were made in the UK.  It now has members from many industry sectors including building and construction, clothing, engineering, environment, health & beauty, home living, print, sports and technology listed at www.madeingb.org.

Other members featuring in the handbook were from from a plethora of interesting businesses supporting the campaign including Stoves cookers, Airway Surfboards, Velopresso the pedal-powered coffee trike, inventors of the lava lamp Mathmos, leading manufacturer of plastic wheelie bins Craemar UK and office interior supplier Godfrey Syrett.

Derailer Actuator Ready for Despatch

April 2015

We’ve been producing de-railing devices for British Rail for many years and here’s another ready for dispatch.

As a safety precaution British Railways fit de-railer devices on many tracks throughout the UK. The Electric Actuator Company has supplied many of these actuators, our design is now an industry standard.  In an emergency the design of the machine moves one rail and makes the carriage de-rail causing the rolling stock to come to a halt.

We’ve been designing, manufacturing and supplying electric actuators from our Bradford facility since 1957. We are proud to be a British manufacturer of a world-class product, building machines to suit a vast number of applications across many industries around the world.

Made In Britain
The Electric Actuator Company -
Joins Made in Britain Campaign

June 2014

The Electric Actuator Company, based in Bradford, West Yorkshire, has joined the Made in Britain Campaign, an initiative started in 2011 to support and promote British manufacturing in the UK and overseas.

Independent research carried out by cooker manufacturer Stoves amongst 1000 British adults in 2011, showed that half of those surveyed admitted confusion about which brand could still claim to be made in Britain, with international takeovers and moves towards Far Eastern production all contributing to an increasingly puzzled landscape.  Two-thirds wanted an official seal of approval to show products made in Britain, whilst half thought British brands should bring manufacturing back to the UK.  More than a third of those questioned stated that they would buy British if it were easier to identify authentic made British products.

So the Made in Britain marque was born and is managed by a committee of industry leaders from UK manufacturers under a not-for-profit company called Made in Great Britain Campaign Ltd.  The objective of the initiative is to sign up 1000+ manufacturers to use the award winning marque, to lobby MPs and peers to raise the profile of the campaign and gain Government endorsement, to promote the marque and campaign in the media to gain awareness and to promote its members, all of whom have been vetted prior to joining.

Andrew Foulds, Director of The Electric Actuator Company said of this new affiliation, “We are delighted to join a Government endorsed campaign that truly identifies British made products and gives buyers the knowledge and therefore an educated choice on the goods they buy.”
